Oh man ...

In a crazy moment of trying to get organized and simplify things, I deleted all of my blog photos! What a goober. Anyhow, I'll post a few new ones, but in the meantime, my apologies for the boring looking blog.

Here's a shot of what our cabana looks like on the inside. It's so stinking cute! We spent the 3-day weekend breaking it in - too much food, too much beverage, but just the right amount of friends and laughter! The kids feel right at home, playing on the sand, crashing through the waves, swimming in the pool and going nuts on the awesome play structures. It's a great family place, I feel so fortunate to have this experience. We're kind of hoping Andrew will get a job here, so he can be our official Cabana Boy (just kidding), but wouldn't that be cool!

School is almost out, thank goodness. I'm tired of being the homework assistant and the nagging that goes with it. Did I ever do that to my parents? What's wrong with this picture? Just do the work dagnabit, and stop whining. Me thinks I need to tweak my parenting a bit.

Check this out! Alexander in full sparring gear - holy cow! He did a great job and really let 'em have it. Not sure how much I love that, but it's building his confidence and that's great. And yes, he is sparring with a girl in this shot - equal opportunity, I guess. The first kid really gave him a run, but he held his own - way to go Alexander. William can't wait until it's his turn, look out world! Andrew finished his first Crew Season and is ever grateful for sleeping in again, for him that means not getting up until 6am to get ready for school, instead of 5 and being on the water to watch the sunrise. I think he actually misses it, but at least now he's rested enough to hang out with friends.

Thomas and I celebrated our 9th Anniversary yesterday! Good Lord how quickly the years have passed. We went to a really nice Italian restaurant (apropos) called Undici (which means 11, so I guess we'll have to hang around here a few more years so we can celebrate our 11th there). Anyhow, we settled on a particular wine, a meaty Italian red; when the Owner told us it was from Umbria we just looked at each other and smiled. Not sure if you all remember, but that's where he proposed, under the light of the Tuscan (well, Umbrian) sun! It was a delicious dinner and so nice to share some quiet time. This is, quite literally, the kitchen in Corciano where Thomas got down on his knee, after 2 days of 'trains, plains and automobiles' to find us, and proposed. It's good to remember him like that; helps when I sometimes want to clobber him! We plan on returning next year, to celebrate 10 years of wedded-ness, Andrew's High School Graduation, and a significant milestone for me. I hope we can keep that dream alive! It would mean so much to me. I can still remember how it felt to throw open the french doors of that little kitchen and cook up a storm, every once in a while taking a peek outside to admire the acres and acres of sunflowers. It was amazing; all of it. The sights, the smells, the people, the weather, the food - there's nothing like plopping yourself somewhere and trying to 'live'. One of my most memorable moments, top o'the list for certain.
Have a great weekend yous guys!

Climate Zone 32

I have never seen a 'real' dogwood tree, let alone a pink one. And lilac, OMG my neighbor's entire back fence is all lilac in full bloom - too bad it's just out of my reach or I'd be exercising my Midnight Horticulture removal techniques. My tulips were promptly eaten by a rabbit (I say rabbit, because if it was the deer that tromp down our street at dawn, I'll just be pissed. And BTW, we really do have adorable wild rabbits around here). So, I've finally accepted the fact that I live in a different climate zone (read: frost, snow, heat, humidity). I won't have lemons and oranges gracing my yard. And I'm waiting until after Mother's Day to plant tomatoes (even though it seems really late). Our local garden store guy said there's a chance of one more frost and he didn't want me coming back to him complaining. HA! We'll see.

My NF and I are 'nesting'; decorating the beach cabana. I pulled out my sewing machine today, and hopefully haven't lost my touch. How hard can a few straight seams be - pillows, curtains and a seat cushion? I think it'll look great and will post pictures when it's done. I still don't really know what to expect from this 'scene', but I'm sure it'll be fun (or funny). I keep thinking of Dirty Dancing and Baby!

The kids are in count-down mode - June 19th ends our first school year here in the East. It's been a great experience for all three, and I know they're looking forward to continuing their new frienships over the summer. I can't believe that Andrew will be 18 next month - how did that happen? One more year, then off to college, GEEZ!

Happy day to you all!
